Ce sont nos confrères de La Voix du Nord qui ont rapportés la triste nouvelle. Dans la nuit du lundi au mardi, l’ancien technicien français Bruno Metsu a rendu l’âme à la clinique des Flandres, à Coudekerque-Village, dans le Nord.
Au mois de juillet dernier dans une interview accordée à nos confrères du journal L’Equipe, l’entraîneur français disait « Aujourd’hui, oui, je joue le match de ma vie », faisant ainsi allusion à sa maladie. Un cancer généralisé du colon, du foie et du poumon diagnostiqué. Bruno ne gagnera finalement pas son match de la vie. Il s’est éteint à 59 ans.
Avant de terminer dans le Golfe, Metsu a été sélectionneur en Guinée en 2000. De là, il a dirigé les lions de la terranga du Sénégal avec lesquels il s’est limité en quarts de finale lors de la Coupe du monde 2002.
Le désormais feu Bruno Metsu, laisse derrière une femme et trois enfants.
